Aga Khan University (AKU)

General information:

The Aga Khan University Medical College, established in 1983 as part of the Aga Khan University’s Faculty of Health Sciences in Karachi, Pakistan, collaborates closely with the School of Nursing and Midwifery and the University Hospital to ensure excellence in education and medical practice. Its faculty, students, and staff are dedicated to upholding the highest standards of education, research, and patient care. Through multidisciplinary collaboration and state-of-the-art technology, the University Hospital provides advanced diagnostic and treatment services.
Aga Khan University is committed to developing human potential by fostering knowledge discovery, dissemination, and practical application through service. It aims to prepare individuals for leadership roles and contribute to shaping public and private policies through research excellence and high-quality education, all dedicated to making a meaningful impact on society.
Paediatric Neuro-Oncology (PNO) remains one of the most underdeveloped fields in Pakistan, with limited expertise and only two dedicated centres, both in Karachi. Aga Khan University (AKU) has emerged as a leader in advancing this field, with Dr. Naureen Mushtaq playing a key role in establishing comprehensive multidisciplinary care and capacity-building initiatives. Through collaborations with renowned institutions such as The Hospital for Sick Children and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, AKU has enhanced treatment approaches, improved survival outcomes, and expanded training opportunities for healthcare professionals specializing in pediatric neuro-oncology.
